Mindset & Resiliency

Pressure is a privilege.

I like to joke about my life being a deck of cards.

Diamond hitches on the Decker,

Spade bits in my bridle horse’s mouth

Luck, a Prayer

And the Heart V

But it really does embody my life.

From throwing hitches in the Frank Church Wilderness to foaling out mares in a blowing wind and snow.

Life asks something of you.

I’ve mistaken that asking for a burden more than once.

When I lose gratitude, everything goes with it.

We didn’t land here by accident.

We bled for this.

We paid for this opportunity. In time, in loss, in long roads that could lead to nowhere.

Starting over more than once with this dream of sovereignty and horsemanship

Opportunity stands quiet and it’ll measure you just the same as any hard country ever did.

I’ve got to grow into it, to embrace expansion. Call it grit, nervous system regulation… either way, the inside has to match what’s building on the outside.

Because things are growing.

Not just in numbers or names or wins.

But in weight. In responsibility. In consequence.

Sure there’s shows, clinics, sales, futurities, jackpots…

But that’s not the harvest.

The harvest is earned long before it’s seen.

It’s in the dark mornings.

The feed runs. The checks. The quiet decisions no one claps for.

It’s stewardship. And it’s silent.

Those who see, see.

It’s choosing, every day, what matters enough to be done right.

How you do one thing is how you do anything.

Building a place where my kids can stand solid,

Where legacy isn’t talked about, it’s lived.

Commitments to keep and a life that doesn’t slow down just because you feel the weight of it.

The very things I prayed for when I had a whole lot less and wanted a whole lot more
