Fundamentals
Cowhorses are unlike other western sports, even more so if the horse is a true working cowhorse, which would include a heavy endurance and stamina requirement, as well as handiness with a rope.
Regardless, the fundamentals when pursued with integrity, are the same. The way the horsemen gets paid, might differ, but the method in good conscious should be similar.
These fundamentals are key to understanding the feel of moving a cow, and working the cow in such a way that is beneficial to the well being of the herd, with stockmanship and intensity to get to job completed.
This is why I don’t pay too much mind yet to advanced maneuvers, as I am not at that level of refinement. But I am focusing on getting my fundamentals proper, my positioning proper, and my feel clear and smooth.
A few months out from this clinic with Justin Lawrence, and I am excited with the challenge of getting my mare Gloria prepared for the clinic.
I am so grateful for the opportunities I’ve been given to grow in my horsemanship and knowledge of nutrition, care and genetics. And what future opportunities can be presented due to the work and effort put forward today.
I hope to see you at this clinic in August in Dickinson ND. Justin is a great horseman, and has great colt starting experience and hackamore horse experience.
